(Johor Bahru, July 11) The Johor state election result 2026 has confirmed BN’s dominance in the southern state with a landslide victory that saw the coalition claim 48 out of 56 state seats — a gain of eight seats over the previous election and well above the 37-seat threshold required for a two-thirds majority.

MCA’s performance was widely regarded as the standout result within the BN camp. The Chinese-based party, which had been written off by many after its total wipeout in 2018, recovered to four seats in the 2022 Johor election and has now doubled that to eight seats in 2026 — a trajectory that MCA president Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong cited as proof that persistence and grassroots commitment can overcome even the most difficult political circumstances.

MCA’s eight seats included four successfully defended — Bekok, Yong Peng, Paloh and Pekan Nanas — and four newly won: Jementah, Tangkak, Layang-Layang and Johor Jaya. In direct head-to-head contests against DAP in seven Chinese-majority constituencies, MCA won four to DAP’s three, reflecting a notable shift in Chinese voter sentiment toward BN in this election cycle.
The MIC won all four seats it contested in the Johor state election 2026, including a historic first in the Perling constituency where its candidate became the first Indian representative ever elected in that seat’s history. The Indian-based party also narrowly recaptured Bukit Batu with a majority of just 174 votes — having lost the same seat by only 137 votes in the previous election.
Pakatan Harapan’s DAP component fell from 10 seats to six, losing Jementah, Tangkak, Johor Jaya and Perling in the process. PKR retained only its Puteri Wangsa seat, while Amanah held on to Simpang Jeram by a wafer-thin margin of just 170 votes.
