(Seremban, August 2) Two of Pakatan Harapan’s most prominent figures in Negeri Sembilan were defeated in the state election result 2026, amplifying a heavy night for the coalition that saw it retain only 11 of the 36 state seats. DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng fell in Gemencheh while caretaker Menteri Besar Aminuddin Harun lost in Rantau, as BN and PN jointly won 25 seats to secure a two-thirds majority.

BN-PN Win Combined Majority

BN won 18 seats in the Negeri Sembilan state election result 2026 — UMNO took all 16 it contested and MCA won two from seven. PN won seven, with PAS claiming four and Gerakan Tanah Air three. The combined total of 25 exceeded the 19-seat governing threshold by a wide margin, and both parties will form the new state government under the approval of Tuanku Muhriz.

Pakatan Harapan Wins Only 11 Seats

Pakatan’s night was defined by two high-profile defeats. Lim Guan Eng lost Gemencheh to MCA’s Hsiao Khang Chun by 688 votes, while Aminuddin lost Rantau to UMNO’s Mohammad Fisa by 2,976 votes. Lim acknowledged the defeat with grace, telling supporters at Jempol’s community hall that he had already sensed the result when the gap in unofficial tallies reached 500 votes. He apologised to his supporters but promised to remain in Jempol and continue serving the people there.

DPM Zahid Visits Palace to Submit Three MB Candidates

Ahmad Zahid arrived at the Istana Besar at around 10pm on election night to present the ruler with BN’s preferred candidates for the post of Menteri Besar. He left at 12.45am and confirmed that three names from BN had been submitted. The final choice rests with Tuanku Muhriz, whose decision will be communicated through a palace announcement. Zahid asked that courtesy be shown to the outgoing Menteri Besar in any transition of the official residence.
